WARRIORS

I have spent this week deciding just how far I want to take my current project. I have reached somewhat of a stalemate. My first two lithos are completed. Their companion pieces (paintings) are not complete. In all I would like to complete 4 of each. I am also contemplating an installation piece to go along with these that would encompass painting, drawing, and sculpture. But this may be biting off a little more than I can chew.

My theme relates to women I know, how they see themselves, and comparing this self-view/analysis with how I envision them to present universal themes that most women can relate to. Each model completes a questionnaire and I use their answers to assist me with developing images. The paintings are realistic and "warrior-like"--not in the literal sense, but rather based on size (8'x4' canvas) and how they contend with life's obstacles. The litho prints have more dreamlike or otherworldly qualities, loosely based on certainty painting styles, periods, or famous images.

My friend, Sara, is my first model.  She is seen in the first and last image below. She sees herself as Aphrodite but wishes she were as strong as Wonder Woman. She is also a dedicated mother and an avid runner.
Another friend, Val, is portrayed in the second and third images. She values humor and loyalty above all else and unfortunately has been the victim of the worst kind of betrayal. Her depiction, loosely based on Michelangelo's Creation of Adam, conveys her survival and "rebirth".

My final two models, my sister and mother-in-law, have completed questionnaires but I am still working out the details and researching images.
