Exploring

I am using circular forms that are abstractions of cross-sections of trees. I am interested in how the rings of trees show time—a mostly human concept. I will explore other possibilities of representing ways nature expresses time.

My work is usually black and white. I have been experimenting with color and pattern through use of ink washes. So far, none of it seems necessary to what I want to convey. More experimenting is needed.

Here is an image of the circular forms.

I experimented with a black ink wash, a bit of blue ink wash, and patterns.

I experimented with white crayon, color ink washes, and salt to create a speckled look. I also added a bit of pen work until I noticed the wetness and texture of the paper were slowly destroying the pen tip. Next time, I will add pen before I use ink wash.
