Maggie Bush. Week 3 Progress.

Well, I have to admit to feeling a little stuck. I found myself overanalyzing everything instead of just trusting my gut and going for it. I do believe that it is important for me to just get to work and get out of my head--I could get stuck there for a LOOOOOOONG time.

For my women series, I am forging ahead with a lithography of my mother-in-law. We had a photo shoot this week. I sketched out my image and it is ready now for the stone. The drawing is loosely based on DaVinci's Last Supper in keeping with my "renaissance" theme. Currently, I have no idea why I chose to paint Elizabeth with her cherished bears but it felt important to her portrayal. Hopefully, I will figure it out by the time it is completed.

I was also able to make a lot of progress on my first large scale painting.

INSPIRATION
The four artists who inspire me:

                                                                         Amy Cutler

I recently discovered Amy Cutler and I absolutely adore how she handles her rendering and color along with uniqueness of subject matter. She captures the strength of women in a subtle way.

Lisa Yuskavage

I love how soft she paints. She captures an innocence in otherwise unsettling images. I could only hope to paint like her one day.

Rene Magritte

I recently viewed an exhibition of his work. I am inspired by a brain that can conceive his surreal imagery. Amazing.

Kehinde Wiley

I love his heroic images and hope to redefine heroism in the women of my own paintings. Truly masterful work.
